Starting Perennials

I know it feels super early to be starting seeds, but hear me out… I am only starting our perennial seeds. They take a bit longer to grow and mature so starting them early gives me a bit of a jump start on them.

Last summer every time I went on a flower garden tour at my parents’ home I would grab a handful of seeds to bring back with me. It is a giant experiment and a day well spent in the sunshine to see if these will make it. If these do sprout we will have Lupine, False Sunflowers, Mallow, Jewels of Opar, Bunny Tails, Black Eyed Susans, and False Indigo.

A little look down memory lane at our perennials from last year. We had plans to landscape our home last summer and I took on the challenge to grow 80% off our plants from seeds. I grew Black Eyed Susans, Bunny Tails, Salvia & Russian Sage.

We hired a landscape designer to draw out plans for us. We had an idea of what we wanted but we just couldn’t get the full vision. She absolutely nailed it!! She was able to give me the numbers I needed to know how much I had to grow to complete the look. Jesse sourced the rock and we hauled it ourselves. We also moved rock and laid out the landscape by ourselves. It was a lot of back breaking work, but now we just get to soak it up and watch it get fuller year after year!! It is also super fun to say, “I grew that from a tiny seed!!”
